Description
ESAB OK 48.00 is a reliable, general-purpose low-hydrogen electrode designed for manual metal arc (MMA/SMAW) welding of carbon steels, carbon-manganese steels and fine-grained carbon-manganese steels with elevated yield strength.
The electrode produces a tough, crack-resistant weld deposit and features a basic, low-moisture-absorption coating. It is particularly suited to structural and fabrication applications where demanding stress conditions and dependable weld integrity are important. ESAB also highlights its good welding speed in the vertical-up position and its relatively low sensitivity to variations in base-material composition.
OK 48.00 is classified to AWS A5.1: E7018 H4 R and EN ISO 2560-A: E 42 4 B 42 H5. ESAB specifies diffusible hydrogen at below 4 ml/100g and lists approvals including CE, UKCA, DNV, Lloyd’s Register and others, although individual approvals can depend upon manufacturing location.

Recommended welding current: 70–110 A.
3.2mm × 450mm – approximately 2.3kg per VacPac
Recommended welding current: 90–140 A.
4.0mm × 450mm – approximately 4.1kg per VacPac
Recommended welding current: 120–190 A.
